In October of last year, the former Minister of Health Dr. Julio Mazzoleni announced the closing of the negotiation and payment of an advance of 6.8 million dollars for the acquisition of 4,279,800 vaccines against the coronavirus through the Covax Facility mechanism. However, eight months later, the ineffective system created by PAHO / WHO delivered just 170,400 vaccines to Paraguay.
After more than a month of waiting, another shipment of the antiviral finally arrives tomorrow via Covax. It would be 134,400 AZD vaccines from Oxford / AstraZeneca, which would be used in part to widen the age range in the inoculation of older adults according to the national vaccination plan.

The immunization that continues this week with the vaccination of adults born until 1959 (62 years of age or yet to be completed) would thus advance, as of Monday 7, to those over 60 years of age, as announced by the Minister of Health, doctor Julio Borba.
It is worth mentioning, however, that according to the director of the Expanded Program of Immunizations (PAI), Dr. Héctor Castro, of these 134,400 vaccines that arrive tomorrow, around 90,000 doses will be destined to the inoculation of people who require the second dose of the antiviral, thus leaving a remnant of just 44,400 biologicals for the vaccination of adults over 60 years of age.
According to the National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC), the estimated time of arrival of the Avianca flight in which the vaccines arrive tomorrow is around 2:20 p.m.
