Engaging citizens in political discussions. However, it can also lead to the spread of misinformation, which undermines the democratic process. A balanced approach is needed to harness its benefits while mitigating its drawbacks.
Thank you for taking the time to join us today for this interview. Before we begin, let me introduce our guests. We have Mr. Hasan, a political analyst from Aceh, and Ms. Elsa, a civil rights activist from Banda Aceh.
Firstly, can you share your thoughts on the recent gubernatorial debate in Aceh? How important do you think debates like this are in the democratic process?
Hasan: Debates are an essential part of the democratic process as they give voters the opportunity to understand the candidates’ visions and platforms better. However, the recent debate in Aceh was disappointing due to the chaos that ensued. It is concerning that personal attacks and supporters’ intervention have overshadowed the candidates’ ideologies.

Elsa: The microphone issue might have been a genuine concern, and it is the responsibility of the organizers to address it promptly. Still, the behavior of the supporters was unacceptable. They should have raised their concerns peacefully without resorting to violence or disruption.
Can you share your thoughts on the role of social media and technology in political discourse in Aceh? Do you think they are helping or hindering democratic processes?
Hasan: Social media has played a crucial role in raising awareness about local issues and
