38 years since the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The tragedy, which became the largest man-made disaster of the 20th century, occurred on the night of April 26, 1986 and overnight changed the lives of millions of people. An explosion at the 4th power unit of the nuclear power plant led to a fire and the release of radioactive substances. Ukraine, Russia and Belarus suffered the most.
In our country, 23% of the territory was polluted. At that time, over two million people lived there. There were about 3,700 settlements there. Residents of 479 have been resettled. A total of 600 thousand people were involved in eliminating the consequences of the accident. The residents of Lida also took part in it. Today, on the occasion of the tragic date, a thematic program “Chernobyl – a long echo” was organized at the Palace of Culture of the city of Lida.
