Ford's Theater, Washington

When John T. Ford bought the old Baptist church on Tenth Street, Washington, he converted it into a theater. His life passed between American politics and dramaturgy, although it was his stage as a director that would put him on the front page, as he had to face one of the most tragic events in American politics. In 1865, actor John Wilkes Booth, a sympathizer of the Confederate States during the Civil War, shot the president in the head. Later, he would be pronounced dead at the Petersen House, located right across from Ford’s Theater. Today, more than 150 years later, the Ford Theater is still in full operation although part of the enclosure has been converted into a museum that commemorates the terrible event that marked the history of American politics and society.
