This document is, in principle, the reconstruction of the intellectual trajectory of the actor, director, playwright and Colombian theater theorist Santiago García. The relevance of his artistic work is unquestionable at the national and regional levels, since he is one of the Latin American references in the search for his own, original art and committed to the most pressing problems of society. Said reconstruction also covers two broader spheres of what could be strictly understood as a biography. One of them is the cultural and political history of the country during the second half of the 20th century and so far in the 21st; An artist’s creative opportunities are located in socially given, historically configured conditions of possibility, which carry a tradition that is not always easy to transform. The other is the interpretation of art as a matter of the effort made by human beings for the sake of a more adequate understanding of reality and, why not?, of its possible transformation.
