The tests for plague on sheep and goats in our country are negative – Agro Plovdiv – 2024-08-07 08:29:12

The samples for plague of small ruminants in a herd of 900 animals are negative. The same were taken by order of the Executive Director of BABH Dr. Svetlozar Patarinski, as samples are examined during the movement of animals from one livestock facility to another.

The measure is part of the actions taken by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency to prevent the entry of the disease due to the worsening epizootic situation in Romania and Greece.

BABH carries out annual monitoring for plague in small ruminants. Under the “Certain Transboundary Animal Disease Surveillance Programme”, official veterinarians (OVDs) carry out monthly clinical examinations in the six southern border areas. On the basis of a risk assessment, animal breeding sites where small ruminants are bred (SRP) have been determined. Samples are taken from them for serological testing for FMD and plague. The last sampling was in the month of July 2024, and all the samples taken were negative.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 1,200 clinical examinations have been carried out under the Program and 46,000 small ruminants have been covered. Over 2,000 samples were taken and tested, all of which were negative.
