After several complications and delays, the Semi truck of the American company Tesla is finally going into production. The first customers are expected by the end of this year.
American carmaker Tesla (honestly, rather its boss Elon Musk) is known for its frequent promises, that the later reality doesn’t quite match. This includes the promise of the availability of a new car within a given year, while the subsequent start of production is repeatedly postponed. It was also the case of the semi electric truckwhose production has finally started.
The start of production was announced by Elon Musk via a simple tweet: “I am pleased to announce the start of production of the Tesla Semi truck and delivery to Pepsi on December 1st!“In a follow-up tweet, he said the Tesla Semi will offer a range of 500 miles (about 805 km) on a single charge and that will be”super fun” voyage.

According to Musk’s tweet, Pepsi is expected to be the first customer to receive the news. Other customers, according to the information available, should include Frito-Lay, a subsidiary of Pepsi, or the largest Anheuser-Busch InBev brewery. Pepsi and Frito-Lay are said to have ordered 100 units and have already started installing MegaChargers at their headquarters.
Tesla Seeds to the world showed for the first time almost five years ago, precisely at the end of 2017. Production was supposed to start two years later, but it has only started now. The original reservation was subject to a deposit of 20,000 dollars (about 500,000 crowns) and there were two variants of the tractor to choose from, which differ mainly in the range per load and in the total price.
A semi-trailer with a range of 300 miles (483 km) had a dle previous information it cost $ 150,000 (about 3.75 million crowns), while with a range of 500 miles (805 km) it should have cost $ 180,000 (about 4.50 million crowns). Tesla also promises that a fully loaded Semi model with a trailer weighing around 36 tons can accelerate from 0 to 96 km / h in 20 seconds. In addition, four electric motors that drive the wheels of the two rear axles ensure that even a fully loaded tractor can handle a 5% gradient at a speed of 96 km / h.
We do not yet know the size of the batteries, nor the other technical data. We should probably find more information as the Pepsi delivery date approaches. For now, it’s not even certain whether the Tesla Semi customer will look exactly as seen so far in Tesla tests or services.
