The deadlinefor which agricultural workers can be hired on one-day employment contractsis extended by a month – up to 120 days, reported the Executive Agency “Main Labor Inspection” (GIT). So far, it has been 90 days to cultivate the plantations and harvest fruit, vegetables, rose, lavender and tobacco.
An opportunity for this is provided by changes in Codex of labor, promulgated on August 9.
From the beginning of the year until now, the Executive Agency “Main Labor Inspection” (IA GIT) has provided 188,889 pcs. samples of one-day labor contracts of 1532 farmers. The largest number of them were provided in the regions of Stara Zagora (38,894 units), Pazardzhik (36,793 units), Haskovo (19,516 units) and Montana (11,752 units). The data shows that, for the most part, one-day contracts are used to grow vines, cherries, rose hips, strawberries and pepper.
For the seven months of 2024, labor inspectors carried out 2307 inspections in economic activity “Crop breeding and animal breeding”. 7781 items were established. violations, of which 4772 pcs. are related to health and safety working conditions, and 2995 pcs. relate to labor relations. There are 152 cases of people employed without an employment contract.
A major relief for those employed on day contracts is that they retain their right to social assistance and unemployment benefits. Relief is also provided for farmers and tobacco producers, who do not have the obligation to register this type of contract with the National Revenue Agency, to draw up employment records, etc.
Special software allows farmers to apply for the samples of one-day labor contracts online, at any time, even during non-working hours for the administration. For this purpose, it was upgraded under the project “Optimization and Innovations in IA GIT”, financed under the Operational Program “Development of Human Resources”, co-financed by the European Union through the European Social Fund. The system also allows automatic generation of the data of a worker who is already employed by an employer. She also has a calculator that calculates the social security contributions due and the tax on account of the employed, as well as the amount she should receive as remuneration.
