The political situation in Armenia has been tense since Azerbaijan took control of Nagorno-Karabakh in October.
Armenia’s National Security Service announced that it had discovered “preparations for a terrorist attack (..) planned with the aim of disrupting government institutions.” The service released only the initials of the suspects and did not link them to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Azerbaijan carried out a lightning offensive on September 19, which ended the next day with the actual capitulation of the authorities of the Armenian Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, which existed “de facto” for more than 30 years. After that, virtually all the Armenian population fled from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia.
Meanwhile, in Armenia, opposition parties have held anti-government rallies and demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
