The tender in Chile to improve the deteriorated international route to Paso Cardenal Samoré has failed – Bariloche Digital

This is the third failed attempt to carry out the project that seeks to strengthen connectivity between Chile and Argentina in one of the most important border complexes in the country. The Seremi of Public Works of the Los Lagos Region of Chile confirmed that the tender for the project to replace the international route to the Cardenal Samoré pass, which includes 22 kilometers and a budget of $32 billion, was not awarded.

According to the regional minister of MOP Los Lagos, Juan Fernando Alvarado, only one offer was received on this occasion. “This project has had three attempts at bidding, the first in 2021, the second in 2022 and the third this year 2024, where we had the project public for an amount of $32 billion and the only offer we received was for $80 billion, so it was rejected,” he explained.

The mayor of Puyehue, María Jimena Núñez, expressed her concern about the failed tenders of the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) on Route 215-CH and the importance of improving this section of international relevance.

“We have been upset and worried by the tender to improve the section of road at the Cardenal Samoré border and the fact that the $32 billion allocated are not enough to award this important work on a route that is crucial in the country. So, we are concerned that the MOP does not make a more grounded evaluation and that this section has already been tendered on two previous occasions and is falling through due to lack of resources,” he emphasized.

Since the project has not been awarded, the Seremi of Public Works reported that efforts are being made to obtain resources to promote a larger project to maintain the route, which will include resurfacing the 22 kilometers of asphalt.

“The idea is to carry out the conservation project during this summer season,” added the regional minister Juan Fernando Alvarado. Finally, it was reported that the failed tenders for the route improvement project will be reformed and studied. (DiarioBinacinal)
