For the friends of the Teltower turnip, their favorite time is about to begin again: on September 26th, the traditional turnip tapping marks the beginning of the harvest of the small root wonder with the spicy, piquant taste. Supported by the prince and princess, Leni and Malte, the first turnips will be pulled out of Ronny Schäreke’s field on this day. He will harvest the cone-shaped and very delicate turnips until the end of the season in March.
The two turnip farmers Axel Szilleweit and Ronny Schäreke will plant their seeds in the ground in August and hope for a good harvest. But first they have to celebrate the first turnips of 2024 properly. The 25th Turnip Festival will take place on September 29th from 12:00 to 18:00 in Ruhlsdorf. Planning is in full swing, says event manager Bernd Blankenburg. Market stalls are once again lining Güterfelder Strasse, where there are plenty of turnip delicacies to sample. Jens Grabow processes the root vegetables into turnip spirit and turnip liqueur, ketchup, mustard and fruit spread, among other things.
Many stalls also offer handicrafts, and Blankenburg promises again “a festival for the whole family with music and a varied program.” The stage program is certainly impressive:
The well-known band Die Ossis will be there for the 25th Rübchenfest. For 20 years, the five Berlin musicians have been offering a live and very successful cross-section of the last 20 years of GDR rock music history. Hits such as “ILD”, “Bataillon d’amour”, “Der blaue Planet”, “Wenn ein Mensch lebt” are among the band’s repertoire. The dancers from the Teltower Carneval Club, a show dance group from the Kurrat dance school and the cheerleaders from Grün-Weiß Großbeeren will also be there again, to name just a few of the numerous stage acts. Lively brass music rounds off the stage program.

Other attractions at the festival include “Tom Balloni”, the stilt clown who models balloons into funny figures, and the children’s craft workshop “Wooden Railway”, which has a covered pavilion on site where children can do handicrafts. The children’s bouncy castle “Tom the Tiger” provides the necessary excitement for the little guests.
For those arriving without a car, Regiobus line 626 is once again providing a free shuttle between the Teltow Stadt S-Bahn station and the Teltow-Ruhlsdorf stop. The festival can be reached on foot in 15 minutes from the toom Baumarkt Stahnsdorf car park. Due to construction work on Sputendorfer Strasse in Ruhlsdorf, there are no parking spaces there. We therefore ask that you use the shuttle bus for a sociable journey.
