SCENE 125
The phone call it was staged in Panhellenia for the first time with Palaiologos Chalidas, directed by Dimitra Larentzakis, on January 27 at the Act theater in Patras and is a production of AntArts AMKE.
After the successful course in Patras, Athens, Ioannina and Larissa, it returns in Ioannina and Stage 125 for 2 performances Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January 2024 at 21:00.
The phone call by Thanasis Triaridis belongs to a not at all “holy” trio of plays, as far as the last three that the author wrote during the quarantine. It is literally a living, “spartan”, comedy drama.
Brief description of the project
A possibly desperate actor calls random people, who, by analogy, have the names of American Presidents. He suggests that they say the phrase “Tsakapiko, birbiliko” and automatically win 100 euros. But if they say that line, the actor will shoot a dog in the head.
It is quickly revealed that we are watching a new kind of theater, Delimmatic Theater (Delthi for short). The actor must shoot an animal on stage with the consent of an audience member, failing which he will shoot himself. Delthi is very popular in all the theatrically developed countries of the world.
Triaridis, through a very strong comedy, gives us once again the opportunity to experience a performance, in which the presence of the spectators can transform the monologue into a dialogue. The audience is an integral, living part of what is about to happen, until the Presidents of America – even when it turns out to be a synonym – provide an answer to the dilemma posed by the actor. An answer that is, however, a matter of life or death. As are usually the decisions of any Presidents, let alone those of America.
The scene, after the first phone call, begins to take the shape of an arena, with the promise that someone will always lose their life in the end.
The animal or the man. “Very lively and not at all boring…”
The phone call belongs to a new kind of theatre, that breathes, moves and lives for the duration of a performance, every night. With a dilemma as strong as the position,
that we will take silently or not against it. With a dilemma as alive as the actions of men, with or without authority. The actions through which human history was written. Immersed, from the beginning, countless times in blood. A great work about the responsibility we humans have through the decisions we make or through our destructive apathy.
A work that in the end leads our gaze to turn to the infinity of the sky, to the dawn of a “tomorrow”, where perhaps we can win so that the human and not the animal in us prevails.
Where “one small step for us” can be “one giant step for humanity”.
