The mayor of Ponferrada has accompanied the neighborhood representatives of Peñalba de Santiago and Montes de Valdueza when the mobile phone equipment that basically provides coverage to these towns but also to other towns in Tebaida came into operation, for the first time in its history, something that constitutes a great advance in the telecommunications of this municipality.
The mayor was accompanied by the representatives of the Neighborhood Council Susana Rodríguez Panizo and José Manuel Neira. According to Olegario Ramón, “for the first time there is a significant investment in telecommunications, for the first time there is an involvement of the Junta de Castilla y León, an involvement of the president of the Provincial Council, who also made direct negotiations with Telefónica. In short, an alliance for the benefit of rural areas ”. For the councilor from Ponferradino “in this line, work has to continue to provide coverage, to provide quality digital communications to the entire rural environment.”
Preliminary work began last September with the installation in situ in the Alto de Corón of a 30-meter high mobile telephone antenna to provide 4G technology service to these emblematic towns, which register a large number of visitors. The installation has been carried out by Telefónica, which has carried out the work through the company Abengoa.
At the moment the equipment is working thanks to a generator set, which will be temporarily operative until the definitive connection that supplies electrical energy from the network to the antenna from the neighboring town of Bouzas comes into operation. This definitive power line will be financed with a grant of 100,000 euros from the Junta de Castilla y León, the result of a personal commitment by President Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, made public during his recent visit to Tebaida in August 2020. At this time, since the Ponferrada City Council is streamlining the project that will later have to go out to tender.
