At the meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) to resolve the situation in Donbass, it was not possible to agree on the exchange of prisoners and the opening of the checkpoint. There have also been no shifts in strengthening the ceasefire.
This was announced by a representative of the Ukrainian delegation Sergey Garmash on the air of the channel “Ukraine 24“. The TCG meeting was held on December 8. According to him, the reason for this is that Russia has put forward unrealizable demands.
Garmash stressed: negotiations on the situation in eastern Ukraine are reaching a dead end because of Russia. In particular, the representatives of the Russian Federation demanded that the Ukrainian parliament adopt an action plan for a political settlement of the situation together with the pseudo-republics “LPR” and “DPR”. At the same time, Garmash noted that the Verkhovna Rada would never adopt such a document, since it does not recognize these “republics” and their “authorities.”
In addition, the Russian side, according to a member of the Ukrainian delegation, does not explain why it does not want to open the checkpoint, in particular, in Shchastya. “Russia is putting forward political demands for the opening of the checkpoint,” Garmash said.
He also said that the Ukrainian delegation has prepared a document on the return to the ceasefire, which may be considered at an extraordinary meeting of the TCG.
As OBOZREVATEL reported earlier, earlier Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the authorities expect that at a meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group on Donbass issues will be resolved about the “Christmas” truce, the exchange of prisoners and the opening of the checkpoint.
