The Tatú fertilizer guarantees sugarcane productivity

The creativity of the young Yandisnier Pupo Garrido allowed the modification of the Tatú implement for fertilization, in the Basic Unit of Cooperative Production Guabineyón 4, about 8 kilometers from Puerto Padre, an invention that today saves wages, labor and fuel, in that unit.

Faced with the call from the country’s top management to use more science and technique to increase productive performance, Yandi, who works as head of cane production at the UBPC, focused on the new fertilization implement.

Without wasting time, he analyzed that in order to cultivate and fertilize the sugarcane, the unit needed 2 tractors, one for each cultural service, and 4 men, which meant a higher salary payment.

That also implied a fuel cost of 21 liters per hectare, so he consulted the technical manuals of the implement, in order to innovate and respond to what is needed, in the midst of a complex international economic situation.

With that objective and in the search for a solution, the idea of modifying the fertilization implement arose, to which the engineer Arturo Proenza García, president of the cooperative and Yovany Pupo Garrido, chief of machinery, joined in. ammonia applicator and moved the containers to a stand made with angles that fit the original equipment.

For this innovation, as explained by the technician Yandisnier Pupo Garrido, the power of the tractor was also taken into account and that with the change they could pay better attention to the cultivation of the sugarcane.

Thus was created the new fertilizer implement that can be used in low and medium power tractors, existing in most cooperatives.

As Yandisnier explained, with a single tractor and the modified implement, 256.0 hectares were prepared in the cane planting campaign, using an average 11.0 liters of fuel per hectare, which means this year, a saving of 2 816 liters of oil and 5 120 pesos.

This innovation allows greater attention to the more than 923 hectares of sugarcane existing in the UBPC Guabineyón 4 and to reach 60 tons per hectare in future sugar contests.

Today, the Guabineyón 4 cooperative is working to extend the experience to the rest of the sugarcane structures in the municipality and innovate other teams in the care of sugarcane cultivation.
