The Tasteful and Elegant Thank You Card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla: A Symbol of Appreciation from the British Royal Family

The publishing house “Rīgas Vilņi” has received a letter with the royal seal of Buckingham Palace and a postage stamp, on which the profile of the new monarch, King Charles III, can be seen. As a token of appreciation, the British royal family sends a thank you card on behalf of the King and Queen.

The opening is very tasteful and luxurious. In its center is printed in gold letters the monogram of the monarchs with a royal crown above it. The card is decorated with drawings of British national plants, as well as symbols from the coat of arms – a golden lion and a silver unicorn. The design of the coronation invitations, which were received by the highest officials of the countries, aristocrats and celebrities, was also kept in a similar style.

When opened, the left side of the postcard shows a portrait of King Charles III and Queen Camilla taken after the coronation ceremony. Its author is the royal photographer Hugo Bernand.

“We were deeply touched by your kind and thoughtful message following our coronation. We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part in the celebrations and especially appreciate that you so generously took the time to write to us about this very special occasion,” said the letter of thanks, which was signed by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The ruler’s monogram consists of the intertwined initials C and R, which stand for his name Charles, and Rex, which means “king” in Latin. As the British King is the third Charles to reign, it is accompanied by the Roman numeral III and is written before the Latin name Charles III Rex.

Camilla’s monogram also consists of the linked initials C and R. The C stands for her name Camilla, while the R symbolizes the Latin word Regina, which translates as ‘queen’. The monogram of the late Queen Elizabeth II was also decorated with the same letter with the same meaning – ER – Elizabeth II Regina.

The coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla took place on May 6, 2023 at Westminster Abbey in London, the same place where the then 25-year-old Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953. The ceremony was much more modest than his mother’s coronation. It was attended by 2,000 invited guests, while 8,251 people graced the coronation of Elizabeth II with their presence in Westminster Abbey.

The king was crowned with the 2.23 kilogram crown of St. Edward on his head. This crown was made for King Charles II in 1661. It replaced the previous crown, which was melted down in 1649. The castle states that the original dates back to the 11th century. During the ceremony, Charles III exchanged this crown for the much lighter Crown of the Imperial State, which adorned his head even later, waving greetings to the nation from the balcony of Buckingham Palace. We also saw this crown on the coffin of Elizabeth II, when the world said goodbye to the longest-reigning British queen. The crown is adorned with 2,868 diamonds and other precious stones and weighs 1.06 kilograms.

Queen Camille was also crowned at the solemn ceremony. Although she is officially Queen Consort, as the late Queen Elizabeth II had wished, Buckingham Palace announced a month before the coronation that the Queen Consort would henceforth be known as Queen Camilla. During the ceremony, the new queen was put on the head of Queen Mary’s crown, which was slightly modified this time. This was the first time in recent history that a queen consort had an existing crown placed on her head instead of having a new one made. Buckingham Palace said the decision was made in the “interests of sustainability and efficiency”, which are close to King Charles’ heart.

King Charles married his second wife Camilla Parker-Bowles in 2005 in Windsor. Charles would have betrothed her more than 40 years ago, but in the late 1970s, the royal house did not think Camilla was high-born enough and demanded that the next heir to the throne choose a lady from a higher order.
