The Tapo RV30 Robot: A Cost-Effective Cleaning Solution with Impressive Features

The attractiveness of expensive home cleaning robots is undeniable – you don’t have to think about emptying the dust bin or drying a wet rag, but all this comes with its price. And this price is not low. A cleaning robot with a fine docking station costs around 700 to 1000 euros and even more.

If you do not want to pay such money for such a house cleaner, then there is always the possibility of buying something cheaper, but not significantly weaker. TP-Link Tapo RV30 the vacuuming and floor washing robot could be one of the most reasonable purchases, although you will have to part with around 300 euros.

Aside from the docking station, the Tapo RV30 offers a range of features that roughly match the level of robotic vacuum cleaners that cost two or three times the price – there’s Lidar navigation, powerful vacuuming, wet cleaning and a few other goodies.

Technical data of the robot:

Sizes: 342.2 × 341.8 × 95 mm
Weight: about 3 kg
Battery: 5000 mAh (up to 5 h operating time)
Dust container: 400 ml
Pure water container: 300 ml
Max suction power: 4200 Pa Included: extra side brush, extra wet floor cleaning cloth, charging dock, robot cleaning tool
Cena: no about 300 euros

Appearance and construction

In this discipline, the Tapo RV30 robot has both advantages and a few moments of clumsiness. The Tapo RV30 is 95mm high, which means it will fit under cabinets, which are usually 10cm off the floor. It should also be noted that the Tapo RV30 has a relatively small diameter, which can also help it slip between furniture legs.

In terms of construction, the Tapo RV30 robot is not far behind other cleaning robots of a similar and higher price, it has sensible plastic, clearly marked buttons, and a very convenient option to remove the water and dust tanks. The side brush is located only on one side, but this is the case with most cleaning robots.

If there’s anything to complain about, it’s the wet cleaning and the cloth. Wet cleaning, even in the minimum mode, seems too wet for me, and the cloth gets attached to two plastic lumps, which do not always keep it in place. The mop with its attachment tends to stay on soft floor coverings if the robot turns more awkwardly. Then the Tapo RV30 robot refuses to continue running and even to return to the charging dock.

The charging dock is quite simple, its only plus is the possibility to enter the power cord from both sides and wrap the excess length of the cord inside the charging dock. Simple, elegant, but many competitors do not use this opportunity.

The Tapo RV30 robot comes with additional accessories – another side brush, another wet cleaning cloth, as well as another HEPA air filter. Accordingly, it can be said that with these additional accessories, the life of the robot is almost doubled before having to look for new parts of the robot.

Setup and App

The Tapo RV30 robot is accompanied by the TP-Link Tapo app, which is not significantly different from other manufacturers’ apps. With the Tapo app, you will be able to easily start using the Tapo RV30 robot, all the necessary instructions are here, and the setup of the robot is very well explained. Just follow the app’s instructions. The Tapo RV30 robot uses only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, which will not be anything new for smart home devices.

The first step of the Tapo RV30 robot is to create a rough map of the house so that the robot does not have to grope in the dark. Approximately 65 square meters of housing Tapo RV30 robot sniffed Within 5 minutes, he started cleaning himself.

Initially, there are a lot of intrusive tutorials in the app, but then they don’t repeat themselves. The standard settings of the Tapo RV30 robot are sufficient for cleaning, but I would recommend reducing the amount of moisture to be used, because even minimal moisture seems crazy for wooden floors.

After the first cleaning, a couple of new possibilities appear, because the robot has divided the house into quite logical zones. You can also set areas where the robot must not go (wires, children’s toys, cat food bowls, etc.).

Here, however, the disadvantages of the Tapo RV30 robot begin to appear – this model will not know how to operate efficiently on two floors of the house. It won’t get confused if you take the robot away from the dock, but it won’t be too excited about creating a new map either. But it will not cause any problems in one-story apartments.

In general, it would be said that the Tapo RV30 robot has 95% of the capabilities offered by competitors and significantly more expensive robot models. There is even an option to set the Tapo RV30 robot to clean the house twice or even three times at once. I don’t really see any use for this, because the Tapo RV30 robot will have already collected everything the first time.

Cleaning

In this discipline, the Tapo RV30 robot gets 9 points out of 10. Every now and then there is some debris that flies through the air from the side brush, but you can enable double cleaning of the house, then all the droppings will be collected.

As I mentioned, wet cleaning feels a little too wet even on minimum mode. In warm weather, when the windows are open, it doesn’t change much, but in winter, you may have to ventilate the rooms more so that they don’t seem damp after cleaning.

The Tapo RV30 robot did not get lost or get stuck anywhere in my home, but here I have already put my hands on all the obstacles, because I myself have a much smaller floor cleaning robot. The Tapo RV30 robot will clean all rooms in one go without any problems, it will clean the rooms as separate areas. Everything will proceed logically and without user intervention.

Cleaning rates are average, but I don’t think it will change anything for anyone. The Tapo RV30 robot cleans my approximately 65 square meters (actually around 45 square meters to be cleaned) in between 52 minutes and 1 hour. In the charging dock, the Tapo RV30 robot comes back with about 80% charge, but it should be noted here that I am using the normal suction power, there are two more powerful suction modes. However, I see their use in homes where there are more soft floor coverings.

If you use more aggressive suction modes, the remaining battery will decrease significantly faster. In the most powerful mode, the Tapo RV30 robot will work for about an hour, but at the same time it will be very loud.

I really liked that the Tapo RV30 robot treats the furniture with great respect, it hardly runs into the furniture, but if it does run into it, it does so very gently and literally jumps back on its own. Also, the Tapo RV30 robot does not push around what you have left on the ground, such as a lighter shopping bag or a plastic box. My Xiaomi robot from time to time tends to uselessly push such objects about 10 cm further.

In conclusion

All in all, the Tapo RV30 robot might be one of the coolest robot vacuum cleaners out there when we consider the price-to-benefits ratio. During testing, I did not see any illogical behavior of the Tapo RV30 robot, it never got confused, but a couple of times it lost the wet cleaning cloth after an unsuccessful maneuver in front of the carpet.

It must be said here that I would not put the Tapo RV30 robot in wet cleaning mode if I was not nearby, because after cleaning the cloth lays on the floor, which is not really ideal. No tray is supplied with the Tapo RV30 robot. Perhaps it is acceptable in places where the Tapo RV30 robot charges on a tiled floor, but in the case of wood and laminate, you should not leave the robot with a damp cloth to charge. In dry cleaning mode, the Tapo RV30 robot can work quietly when you are not at home.

Overall, I would say that the Tapo RV30 robot might be one of the best choices unless you are looking at robots with a self-emptying and robot cleaning dock. But there will be completely different prices again. The Tapo RV30 robot works neatly and logically, has a capable app, and the robot itself is slightly smaller in size, which could also be nice for owners of smaller homes. With one charge, the Tapo RV30 robot could also clean a 150… 180 square meter home, maybe even all 200 square meters, if you don’t have to go around the legs of the table.
