Water banned again in Viterbo. This time fluorides are to blame. The areas supplied by the Pratoleva – Fastello – Strada Teverina water network are affected by the non-drinking ordinance. Specifically, the consumption of tap water for food purposes is prohibited for citizens who live in various hamlets of the capital and in the surrounding areas: Sant’Angelo di Roccalvecce, Roccalvecce, Vallebona, Montecalvello, Pratoleva, Rocchette, Fastello, Teverina road up to Montaciano, Ferento, Ombrone road, Monterosso and Grotte Santo Stefano.
Mayor Chiara Frontini specifies what uses are permitted in the ordinance issued yesterday: in the areas concerned “the use of water must be limited to uses in technological systems and for domestic hygiene”. So it can be used for washing and cleaning the house, but not for cooking or drinking. The Municipality also specifies that the alternative water service has been established through four tankers, positioned in strategic points to cover the greatest number of people: Piazza Fastello (Fastello), Piazza del Mercato near the water house (Grotte Santo Stefano), Sant’Angelo di Roccalvecce near the cemetery and along Strada Teverina, near the public fountain.
The Talete company, as manager of the integrated water service in Ato1 Viterbo, in compliance with what is specified in the ASL note which warns of the exceeding of the fluoride level, will have to adopt, in the shortest possible time, the corrective measures necessary to bring the parameter back within the limits of the law, in order to supply water that complies with the quality requirements established by current legislation.
Just a little over a month ago, it was October 10th, water was banned due to the presence of enterococci in the Respoglio Settecannelle water supply with a week-long ban on use for the inhabitants of Santa Barbara, Ellera, Paradiso and La Quercia. Shortly before Santa Rosa, however, it was the excessively high arsenic value that caused the water to be undrinkable (in that case, however, given the delays in issuing the ordinance which arrived after the emergency was already over, in fact the people of Viterbo they didn’t notice).
