With the “Central Park Tower”, the Big Apple is getting a superlative skyscraper: According to its client, Extell Development Company, the tallest residential building in the world has reached its final height at 472 meters and 131 floors.
Located near Central Park, on 57th West Street, or rather on the so-called “Billionaire’s Row”, living is not a bargain: the cheapest apartment that is still available costs 6.9 million dollars. According to Extell Development Company, a total of 179 “ultra-luxurious” two- to eight-room apartments will be housed in the tower. They cover between 133 and 1625 square meters, the lowest-lying apartments are on the 32nd floor. A branch of the Nordstrom department store chain is moving in below this, and it will open its doors at the end of October.
Behind the architecture made of glass and steel is the “Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture” office; The architects have experience with record high-rise buildings, and they also designed the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. (May)
Central Park: More amenities on your doorstep
Anyone who one day at home in the tower will have, in addition to the club, which is also to be housed here, one day even more amenities on their doorstep: Central Park will be renovated for 110 million dollars and will receive innovations.
The northern area of the park is to be redesigned by connecting the lake at the north-eastern tip of the park with a canal further south. Furthermore, an existing but very dilapidated outdoor pool is to be renewed, which can be converted into an ice rink in winter. As in all the city’s outdoor pools, cooling down is free here.
