The tallest and shortest woman in the world together for the first time in London: the ‘record-breaking’ meeting

The tallest woman in the world, 27-year-old Rumeysa Gelgi (2.15 metres), and the shortest, 30-year-old Jyoti Amge (62.8 centimetres), met for the first time in London to have tea together, in occasion of Guinness World Record Day 2024. “Our goal is to inspire people with visible differences to find the courage to show themselves,” they said.

The tallest woman in the world, the 27 year old Believing Enter (2.15 metres), and the shortest, the 30-year-old Jyoti Amge (62.8 centimetres), met today, Thursday 21 November, in London to have tea together on the occasion of Guinness World Record Day 2024.

The event took place at the hotel The Savoy and the couple was awarded as icona del Guinness World Record in the 70th anniversary edition of the book.

Gelgi, a Turkish researcher and developer, is suffers from Weaver’s syndromea disease that causes accelerated growth and skeletal deformations. Amge, on the other hand, is an Indian actress (she also appeared in the popular US TV series American Horror Story) and suffers from a form of dwarfism called acondroplasia.

The 27-year-old said meeting Jyoti for the first time “was truly incredible. Sometimes it was difficult to look each other in the eyes, because of our height difference, but it was fantastic.” “We have so many things in common: we both love the trick, the take care of ourselves and the nails”, he added.

Gelgi explained: “Our goal is inspire the people with visible differences to find the courage to show yourself. I want to make people understand that being different is okay.”

I’m used to looking up and seeing people taller than mebut today I was very happy to look up and see the tallest woman in the world – said the 30-year-old – I’m very happy to have met Rumeysa, she’s a woman so good and I felt comfortable talking to her.”

Also present at the meeting was the editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records Craig Glenday. “Guinness World Records is all about celebrating differences, and by bringing these two extraordinary and iconic women together, they can share their perspectives on life with each other and with us,” she explained.
