They claim to respect women’s rights “within Sharia”, including the right to education and employment
The Taliban government in Afghanistan will accept any Afghan migrant who has been denied asylum in Europe, but will have to face trial. This was stated by the Taliban spokesman in an interview with an Austrian newspaper, published today and quoted by Reuters.
The Conservative-led Austrian government has taken a strong stand against admitting asylum seekers from Afghanistan to the EU. And the interior ministry had said Austria would continue to deport asylum seekers back to Afghanistan for as long as possible. Interior Minister Karl Nehammer then acknowledged that this was no longer possible, but said he would like these people to be sent to “deportation centers” in neighboring countries.
In an interview with Kronen Zeitung, Taliban spokesman Zabiula Mujahid said his government would like to accept deportees. Asked how the new government in Afghanistan would treat Afghans deported from Austria and Germany for refusing asylum or committing crimes, Mujahid said: “They will be brought to justice. Then the court will decide what to do with them.” He did not explain because these people would be tried and what the possible sentence would be.
A Taliban spokesman reiterated his promise that they would respect women’s rights “within Sharia”, including the right to education and employment.
