The Taliban Responds to ISIS Attacks on Kabul Mosque

Reporting from the Associated Press, Monday (4/10/2021), a bomb exploded outside a mosque in Kabul, Afghanistan. As a result of the explosion that occurred on Sunday (3/10) local time, five civilians were killed.

An office Taliban said the blast was the deadliest attack in the Afghan capital since the Taliban returned to power. No party has claimed responsibility for the explosion.

However, the Taliban suspects ISIS was behind the attack. Because ISIS extremists have stepped up attacks on the Taliban in recent weeks, especially in ISIS strongholds in eastern Afghanistan.

Explosion occurred during funeral prayers for mother of Taliban spokesman

The roadside bomb exploded at the gate of the Eid Gah Mosque in Kabul. The explosion occurred during a memorial service for the mother of the chief Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, who died last week.

Interior Ministry spokesman Qari Saeed Khosti said there were casualties in the blast. He said five people died in the blast.

The explosions represent an increase in attacks facing the Taliban in the weeks after they took control of Afghanistan.

The Taliban themselves, during their 20-year insurgency, have carried out frequent bomb attacks and shootings. But right now Taliban faced with attempts to contain rival guerrillas using the same methods.

Currently, the Taliban struggles to run the country without the foreign aid provided to the previous US-backed government.

3 Suspects Arrested

Several people were arrested in the bomb attack. Three suspects were arrested. Spokesman Taliban, Bilal Karimi, said no Taliban fighters were injured.
