The Taliban is getting crazier, the Afghan capital is in sight

Ghazni

Group Taliban increasingly rampant in Afghanistan. Now the group has almost controlled the capital city.

Previously, US defense officials, as reported by Reuters on Thursday (12/8/2021), predicted the Taliban group could isolate Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan within 30 days. They are even estimated to possibly take over Kabul within 90 days.

The prediction is not without reason, because the last few days the group Taliban is in the midst of incessant attacks on Afghanistan. Not only that, the US official, who did not want to be named, predicts this is the result of the rapid progress the Taliban has made throughout the region when US-led foreign troops left Afghanistan.

“But this is not a foregone conclusion,” the official said, noting that Afghan security forces could secure momentum by putting up more resistance.

“The fear is that suicide bombers enter diplomatic areas to intimidate, attack, and make sure everyone leaves as quickly as possible,” the office said.

Meanwhile, a senior EU official said the Taliban now control 65 percent of Afghanistan and are seizing or threatening to take over 11 provincial capitals.

Taliban Close to Afghanistan’s Capital

Even today, the Taliban group is reported to have captured the strategic Afghan city of Ghazni which is only 150 kilometers (95 miles) from Kabul, the Afghan capital. Thus, 10 provinces have been captured by the Taliban so far.

It lies along the main Kabul-Kandahar highway, which effectively serves as a gateway between the capital and the Taliban stronghold in the south. Ghazni is one of 10 provincial capitals that fell to rebels in the past week.

“The Taliban control key areas of the city: the governor’s office, police headquarters and prisons,” Nasir Ahmad Faqiri, head of the local provincial council told AFP.
