The Taliban have occupied two more districts in Afghanistan

Kabul, June 12, LETA – DPA. Taliban insurgents have occupied two more districts and their centers in Afghanistan, officials confirmed on Saturday.

In the province of Goura, in the west of the country, the Taliban have occupied the Tolak district after fighting by government forces, lawmakers representing the area in parliament said.

The head of the district administration and his staff surrendered to the militants on Saturday morning.

In Balha province, in the north of the country, the Taliban have taken control of the Zara district after forcing government forces to leave the district center, local officials said.

The rebels have won several victories recently.

Since the United States and other NATO countries on May 1, officially began withdrawing troops, at least 17 Afghan districts have fallen into the hands of the Taliban.

Afghanistan has 34 provinces and about 400 districts.

According to a UN report, the Taliban seized five districts during the year last year, but four of them were recovered by government forces within days.

Meanwhile, at least seven civilians were killed in two bombings in the capital, Kabul, on Saturday, security officials said.

Six more people were injured in two mine explosions in the western part of the city, the Interior Ministry said.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the explosions, but both the Taliban andIslamic State“Jihadists carry out such bombings in Afghanistan on a regular basis.
