The aid organization Emergency says Taliban forces have reached the village of Anabah, where they run a hospital.
– Many people have fled villages in recent days, the organization says, adding that they have received more wounded, and that the Taliban do not put obstacles in the way of their activities.
Anabah is 25 kilometers into the 115-kilometer-long valley, but unconfirmed reports say the Taliban have taken other areas as well.
– The situation is gloomy
Two leaders of the National Resistance Front, former Vice President Amrullah Saleh, and Ahmad Massoud are in the valley leading the fight against the Taliban. But Saleh says the situation is bleak.
Panjshir is the only province where the Taliban does not yet have full control. Local fighters held out there for a long time during the Soviet occupation in the 1980s and the Taliban’s first regime in the 1990s.
