The famous Bulgarian theater director Yulia Ognyanova will receive “Icarus” for overall creative contribution to the development of the Bulgarian theater, announced the actor Hristo Mutafchiev, chairman of the Union of Artists in Bulgaria under RFI.
This will happen on March 27, when the “Icarus” awards will be handed out at the “Ivan Vazov” National Theater. The event will be the finale of the third consecutive Sofia Theater Salon, which opens on March 19 in the “Sofia” theater with the exhibition “Interactive Spaces” and the performance “Caligula” at the “Stoyan Bachvarov” Drama Theater from Varna. The performance has four nominations for the “Ikar” award, including for the direction of Yavor Gurdev. During the Sofia Theater Salon, all nominated performances will be shown, after which a jury composed of Petya Tetevenska, Vasil Abadjiev, Yosif Sarchadjiev, Dobrin Vekilov – Doni, Desislava Boeva and Veneta Doycheva will determine this year’s winners of the “Icarus” awards. Yulia Ognyanova was born in Varna. He first studied medicine, and then transferred to the directing class at VITIZ “Krastyu Sarafov”. He also graduated from “Theatre Studies” in Moscow, after which he returned to Bulgaria. Later he worked as a director in the theaters of Burgas, Plovdiv, Sofia (in “Trudov Front” and “199”). Toured in Riga (USSR), Poznan (Poland), Reggio Emilia (Italy), Paris (France). He teaches theater studies, directing and acting for puppet theater at VITIZ “Krastyu Sarafov”. Her hit works “Thirst”, “Dr. Faustina”, “The Birth of a Blues” have been played in Theater 199 for consecutive seasons. She throws incredible energy into the performances she does for the Rhodope Drama Theater in Smolyan. Emblematic titles in his poster are “Sturo Pleme”, “Theatrical Duet”, “The Last Ordinary”. In 1996-1997, Prof. Ognyanova staged “Bivalitsi-nebivalitsi” in “La strada”, and in the following season performed in the “Lazaritsa” National Theater.
