There were many success stories and differed, but the story of the Moroccan young woman Najwa Awan (25 years old) is very special, as she challenged her disability and turned her into a success story in wheelchair tennis, making for herself an influential name to follow in the persistence and strong determination of people with special needs in Morocco.

Awan became disabled as a result of being bitten by a fierce pitbull dog in 2008, as a result of which her leg was amputated due to a medical error while trying to treat her, which led to her entering into severe depression at the age of 13, which is a severe stage that she would not have overcome without the support of her family members. With their support, she was able to face her destiny and accept her fate.

The Moroccan young woman broke into the sport of tennis on wheelchairs, by chance in a camp in Belgium, when international coaches expressed their fascination with her high techniques in playing and the development of her level in a short time, to decide upon her return to Morocco to become a professional in the game, and she engaged in intensive training, which enabled her to win the title of Moroccan champion The year 2017, champion of Africa twice and champion of the Arabs in the young women’s category. She also participated in international and continental championships, during which she reached the final rounds; This made her climb the International Wheelchair Tennis Federation ranking from 184th in the world to 36th in 2018. She is currently seeking to reach the top 5 in the world, to enhance her chances of attending major global forums.

Najwa’s success was not limited to the sports field only, but also to her academic path. The tennis champion holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics, and a Master’s degree in Engineering and Technology for Education and Training.
