The necessary funds for the mandatory elements of the table for Easter amount to BGN 110, according to the observations of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research and Training (ISSIO) at the KNSB on product prices. A brief analysis of the data was made by the economic analyst at the Institute Petar Mishev, reports BTA.
By tradition, the table should be rich, and the holiday of the Resurrection of Christ is among the most revered by the Bulgarian people. In this connection, the question is raised about the necessary means of a household for its preparation, and also about what a person who receives the lowest remuneration – minimum wage – can afford.
The first mandatory element is the dyed eggs. “Usually, every Bulgarian household strives to prepare at least one crust of this product for the traditional “battles”. This means that the amount that should be allocated for them is about BGN 15 for 30 pieces, if we are talking about the smallest size,” Petar Mishev pointed out. Choosing some of the other types – larger or according to the breeding of the hens, will lead to additional costs.
A main part of the traditional meal is also the cobbler.
“Of course, there are various imitations of this product, but if the Bulgarian household wants to put a valuable homemade kozunak on its table, it must prepare an amount of at least BGN 10/kg,” he added.
It puts a symbolic end to the Easter fasts the lamb.
“The data show that a kilogram of meat costs about BGN 26 on average, and compared to the previous Easter, its retail price has risen by 12 percent. Taking into account that the preparation of each local dish requires other products, the final value of the main dish will increase further. If a large traditional green salad or side dish of fresh potatoes is added to the products already listed, the amount will swell even more,” commented the economic analyst.
According to him, based on the above, a quick calculation shows that the necessary funds for the listed mandatory elements of the festive table amount to BGN 110 when 2 kg of meat is purchased for one household. This amount does not include drinks or sweets, which make them more expensive.
Petar Mishev recalled that from January 1, 2024, the minimum wage reached BGN 933 gross, which is BGN 724 net. “A comparison of the necessary products for the Easter table with this “clean” amount of the statutory minimum wage in the country reveals that these funds can only buy 6.5 times the basic products for the festive table, which is the sad news of the upcoming event” , commented the expert.
Petar Mishev also participated in a similar analysis. Then the ISSIO data showed that for all basic products there is a significant increase compared to 2022 and the holiday with the basic ones “comes out” to about BGN 105, not including salads, drinks and sweets.
A total of BGN 2,616 is the net cost of living for a three-member family as of March – two working adults and one child up to 14 years old, announced a few days ago by the KNSB based on the observations of ISSIO.
Income needed for living increased by 1.1 percent on a quarterly basis and by 4.3 percent on an annual basis. Thus, in the period March 2023 – March 2024, according to the union, the cost of living increased by BGN 107 for a family of three and by BGN 60 for a single person.
