JAKARTA – Godzilla , a legendary kaiju icon, has captured the imagination of audiences for decades with its epic scale and unparalleled power. One of the most well-known aspects of Godzilla’s origins is their connection to nukes.
Many believe that this gigantic monster appeared as a result of nuclear activity man. However, the question is, is this really a myth or is there a fact behind it?
Origins of Godzilla
Godzilla first appeared in 1954 in the Japanese film “Gojira.” In the original version, Godzilla is described as a prehistoric animal awakened from its slumber on the ocean floor by a nuclear test.
This is considered a reflection of the trauma and fear generated by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the nuclear tests in the Pacific. Godzilla is a metaphor for the horrific effects of nuclear power and its impact on the environment and humanity.
Myth or Fact?
Demonstrators carry placards depicting the fictional character Godzilla during a demonstration against the planned disposal of waste from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor in front of the offices of the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) in Tokyo, Japan, Thursday (24/8).
Scientifically speaking, the idea that a Godzilla-like creature could form directly from nuclear radiation is a myth. Nuclear radiation can cause mutations in living organisms, but the concept of a giant Godzilla-like creature appearing instantly has no sound scientific basis.
However, in the fictional world and Godzilla universe, this concept is adapted to create dramatic narratives. In some versions of the Godzilla story, he is a prehistoric dinosaur who is exposed to nuclear radiation and transforms into a giant monster.
This approach is more a creative interpretation than an accurate scientific representation. Although Godzilla’s origins from nuclear radiation are not scientific fact, this icon still has strong appeal because of its deep meaning.
Godzilla became a symbolic representative of the nuclear horrors, the destruction of the environment, and the devastating effects of human activities that destroy nature.

In many Godzilla stories, these monster battles also reflect the consequences of natural imbalances and resource abuse. In a fictional context, Godzilla formed from a nuke is an interesting and powerful concept in describing the impact of nuclear on the world.
However, scientifically speaking, the idea that nuclear radiation can directly turn organisms into giant creatures is a myth. Nonetheless, Godzilla’s symbolic message as a warning against nuclear dangers and environmental destruction remains relevant today.
