The Switch is now Nintendo’s 3rd best-selling console

As usual, Nintendo took advantage of its quarterly balance sheet to update the sales figures of its consoles. At the end of 2019, the Switch recorded its best period since the launch, surpassing the SNES in passing.

The Switch offered a new sales record in the last quarter of 2019. The Nintendo console sold 10.81 million copies, against 9.41 million at the end of 2018 (+ 15% ). Thanks to this performance, there are now some 52.48 million machines in circulation, which is not entirely trivial: it has thus exceeded the total of the Super NES, whose counter had stopped at 49 million copies. The Switch (Lite version included) is now the third best-selling console from Nintendo, behind the Wii (around 102 million) and its distant ancestor the NES (almost 62 million).

Not surprisingly, the Nintendo console was able to count on the success of Sword Pokémon and Shield Pokémon to set his record. After being offered a big start with 6 million copies sold over the launch weekend, the two titles ended the year in cannonball, posting no less than 16 million sales as of December 31. let’s remember that Pokemon Moon and Pokémon Sun, holders of the best start record for the saga before that, were also at 16 million copies last fall, that is to say after three years of presence on stalls. Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Super Mario Maker 2 are among the other successes cited by Nintendo in 2019, “each with more than 5 million units”.

For the first nine months of its fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020, Nintendo claims 17.74 million Switch sold (+ 22.5%), knowing that its target for the full year is set at 18 million. 123.13 million games for the console were also sold (+ 30.1%).

The arrival of the Switch Lite, on the other hand, sounded the death knell for the 3DS family. In the first nine months of the fiscal year, only 620,000 units of the portable console were sold (-73% over the year). And game sales follow the same dynamic with only 4.10 million copies sold (-63 & nbsp:%).
