There will be no new formula in the Super League from the 2021-22 season. The clubs of the Swiss Football League have voted to maintain the current modus, with ten clubs.
Voting in writing, the twenty clubs in the Super League and Challenge League had the choice of accepting or rejecting a twelve-team format, drawing inspiration from the Scottish Championship (with a final round between the top six and another between the last six). Result? Ten for, ten against.
Since a qualified majority of fourteen votes was required, the twelve-team formula was rejected. The 2021-22 season and the following ones will be contested according to the current model, with ten participants and 36 days.
For the SFL, this vote allows it to launch the call for tenders for television and marketing rights, since the current contract will end at the end of the 2020-21 season.
