Every year, the Roy René factory alone sells 50 million, of which 5 to 10% is for export. A success that logically made people envious. In 2016, Chinese factories tried to register the name calissons d’Aix in order to be able to manufacture them in their workshops at the end of the world.
There followed a war won by the 13 Aix companies which at the same time won the protected geographical indication (PGI), allowing this emblem of Provence to be made a local exclusivity. Roy René himself would not have shunned this decision, he who, according to legend, gave their shapes and names to the “Calisoun”, or rather hug, in Provençal…
