The Swedish trio in Rostov break their contracts

Viktor Claesson has left Krasnodar and Axel Björnström broke with Arsenal Tula to join AIK.

Three more Swedes are now said to be leaving Russia as a result of the invasion of Ukraine. The championship states that five foreign players have now broken their contracts with Rostov, where three of them are the Swedish trio Dennis Hadzikadunic, Armin Gigovic and Pontus Almqvist.

Since the war broke out, all three have been linked with the Allsvenskan clubs they belonged to before moving to Russia. For Hadzikadunic’s part, negotiations have been reported with Malmö FF, and his agent Walid Faour has also confirmed that the midfielder wants to go home.

– Dennis has a big MFF heart, and that love is mutual. Malmö has done and is doing everything to get Dennis home. We really appreciate it and have therefore turned down several offers from other leagues. MFF wants him, and he wants to play there, he told Fotbollskanalen just over two weeks ago.

Helsingborg’s sports director Andreas Granqvist has confirmed contact with Gigovic, but says that he does not want to speculate on whether he will return to HIF in the near future. Regarding Almqvist, IFK Norrköping’s coach Rikard Norling has said that they are reviewing the possibilities of bringing home former players from Russia, where the striker is one of them. At the same time, he said that he had perceived it as a stop on the recruiting front for this window, if the squad remained unharmed.
