The Swedish cross-country national team confirms in a press release on Friday afternoon that they are changing hotels.
– We choose to move the entire team to different hotels to minimize the risk. None of the athletes have been in contact with any of the infected, and we still consider the risk to be small and limited, says national team doctor Jan Wall.
– In order not to take a risk, we now choose to move the team from hotels with confirmed infection and divide the squad into bubbles in three different hotels, says national coach Anders Byström.
–On Friday morning, it became known that a NRK employee had been diagnosed with the coronavirus. The other NRK employees were quarantined.
Finland, the United States, Russia and Sweden lived in the same hotel.
Hagström says she reacted to the fact that it was an open buffet, and says that she thought that “it was not the best”.
– The more people who are gathered, the less good it is. It may not be a completely optimal situation that so many are gathered, says Ebba Andersson to VG.
FIS race director, Pierre Mignerey, tells VG that the media and the teams must follow the same corona protocol.
– We have done everything to have safe conditions for everyone. An infection can always happen, and we must make sure that it is as safe as possible in the hotel and that the virus does not spread, he says to VG.
Mignerey also believes that it is safer to stay with media representatives who live by the same protocol, as long as everyone stays in hotels with other guests.
–National team doctor Jan Wall notified The online newspaper that they will send a complaint to the International Ski Federation (FIS), before it became known that the Swedes would change hotels.
– The hotel has at least five other national teams living and a majority of private people. We eat in a large dining hall with canteen and buffet food. It feels “so there”. I think everyone felt it when we got there that this did not feel very good, says Wall to Nettavisen.
Norwegian Anne Kjersti Kalvå says after Friday’s joint start in Oberstdorf that they will go straight to the corona test.
– We have good routines, we stay away from most things. I hope we save ourselves, otherwise it is bad luck, says Kalvå to VG.
Asked about the Swedes’ concerns, she answers:
– I can not comment on that. Where we live, there is a safe and nice setting, says Kalvå.
