The Swede signs a new contract with the Stanley Cup champions

Tampa Bay became Claesson’s fifth NHL club in nine years in North America and the 28-year-old made his NHL debut for Ottawa – the club that drafted him in the fifth round in 2011.

He made two appearances for his new team and was a reserve in the background when Tampa secured the double recently but Claesson has made such a strong impression during his short time at the club that he now remains.

The parties have agreed on a new one-year two-way contract for the 2021-22 season.

Claesson has made 161 NHL appearances and 332 AHL appearances during his time in North America.

In addition to Ottawa and Tampa, he has played NHL hockey for the New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks.
