The first step, already in the name. During the clearly promised event, held at Motorstudio Goyang (South Korea), Hyundai showing a new way of moving without emissions. In addition to focusing on classic electric cars, the eastern manufacturer evaluates other solutions, such as at first. The name, which in Latin means “beginning” or “first” symbolizes the innovative role of the company, taking care to embrace the latest frontiers in the sector.
The ecological transition is happening at different speeds, but it does not exclude anyone. Everyone, based on their own resources, tries to promote change. The ban on petrol and diesel engines in 2035 in Europe is the biggest example we are talking about, even more so than our Italians, because it will hit us. Although the current Government has expressed doubts about a one-way strategy, change is around the corner.
To be honest, it should have started already, but, referring back to what we said, the process seems fragmented. The cut allowed by budget law risk dealing another hard blow. After all, incentives are needed so that ordinary families can afford zero-emission vehicles. List prices are still a major limit: even if it comes from a future perspective cheap electric carscurrent events tell a different truth.
If BEVs are struggling, hydrogen vehicles will be struggling a lot. Toyota, the motor powerhouse, tried to launch the Mirai. Despite themselves, potential buyers were still uncertain, skeptical about the fuel system’s capabilities. The charging stations that are not used much are still slowing down the intentions of producers, but the company Tre Ellissi promises to try again. When the time is ripe, they will test the waters again.
The Art of Steel
Hyundai’s Initium prototype also comes from Asia, showing the company’s commitment to developing a sustainable society based on energy sources. This is not a stylistic exercise as an end in itself, but a taste of it Series model with Fuel Cell Powertrain (FCEV) that the brand will appear in the first half of 2025. The special presentation, which includes the 27 years spent in the inner stages in technology, also marks the beginning of the language new style design.
Named The Art of Steel (“art of steel”), it is inspired by the character of HTWO, the division of Hyundai Motor Group focused on the development of the hydrogen value chain. The graphics that start from the light signature inspired by the ‘+’ symbol, present in the logo of the department, join the bump, to create a unique and special sign created for the appearance of FCEV vehicles, characterized by unique lighting, solid proportions and sophisticated elegance.
Immediately known as SUVthe beauty of Initium perfectly integrates functionality for everyday life with the ability to face outdoor events, through decisive lines, able to balance stability and refinement. The 21-inch wheels complete the look, while the sturdy roof rack adds practicality for those who like to take trips.
A family SUV
Initium’s design focused on three key elements: driving autonomy and performance; wide inside and trunk; comfort and safety. Therefore, the idea is to take advantage of the strengths of the power supply from a performance point of view, without exposing the residents to any risks.
Thanks to careful refinement of FCEV technology, the power of the electric motor is able to deliver fino and 150 kW. As a result there is a smooth ride in urban areas and on the highway it is possible to reach the highest limits. The generously sized tanks, the wheels designed to reduce aerodynamic resistance and the tires with low rolling resistance allow you to perform autonomy more than 650 km (tests were done with 18 inch tires).
The designers have identified an effective response to one of the main critical points: the limited refueling infrastructure. Thanks to him special route plannerusers can easily plan the best route, find stations along the way, without going to separate apps. Users therefore have an accurate overview of the availability and operational status of a designated refueling station, as well as the number of vehicles waiting.
In addition, hydrogen fuel cells deliver electricity without emitting pollution. The energy can be used to power and charge various household appliances and personal devices, using the function Vehicle to load (V2L). In particular, a 220V domestic plug can be connected to the external socket.
In terms of space, the Hyundai Initium fits the perfect identity of the SUV family. The large reclining angle adds to the comfort of passengers in the second row. In line with their constant commitment to security, Initium ensures high protection. It is, in fact, equipped with one multi-bone front structure, side reinforcement and nine airbags.
Public debate
The public debate of the concept will be held at Los Angeles Auto Show all of it’Guangzhou by car a Novemberreaffirming its leading position in the hydrogen movement on the world stage. In addition to the presentation, the company held a Hydrogene Heritage Talk session, which celebrated its 27 years of work in FCEV technology. When the new millennium came, investments increased significantly, with the beginning of the Mercury and Polaris projects, the latter aimed at independent development.
“Hyundai’s clear and ongoing commitment to supporting hydrogen technology over the past 27 years is based on our belief in our ability to be a clean, affordable and therefore fair energy source for all – has announced Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company -. We are committed to ushering in a future where hydrogen is used by everyone, in everything, everywhere. We invite you to join us on this journey.”.
“Our challenge started from the production stage, where we pushed the malleability of steel to the extreme to create an artistic form. By Initium – ha commentato SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design – we have created a strong and confident SUV design that demonstrates our commitment to customers through customer-focused development.”.
