It was previously known that the five doctors are suspected of corruption. They allegedly accepted a bribe from a medical device manufacturer.
Partly at the initiative of cardiologists, Isala moved several wards into doctors-owned buildings. As a result, they have become employees, employers, real estate investors, landlords and tenants NRC extension. They received 3.5 tons of rent a year, but the additional income was not known to the hospital.
Harthuis is one of the departments that has moved into a building for cardiologists. The department itself had indicated it needed more space, but the then head of the department was one of five suspects. In 2016, Isala signed a 10-year lease on the Harthuis’ new home, reports NRC extension.
The cardiologists recently sold their stake in real estate. An Isala spokesman leaves NRC extension know that in 2015 the hospital management heard from a specialist doctor that “the cardiologists were involved as silent partners” in the rented buildings.
But according to Isala, the board didn’t know which cardiologists were involved. The hospital also says it has no problem with the situation, as long as there are no “unwanted conflicts of interest”.
