The suspect in the parade shooting in the USA planned the attack for weeks

Highland Park police previously identified the suspect as Robert E. Crimo III. and that he is now in detention. The man bought the high-powered rifle he used in the attack legally. He fired more than 70 shots into the crowd from the roof. Police believe the suspect changed into women’s clothing to blend in with the crowd fleeing the scene.

Investigators still have no idea what the motive was for the shooting. Authorities plan to file formal charges against the suspect.

A parade in the city of Highland Park came to an abrupt halt Monday morning when gunfire rang out about 10 minutes after it began, sending hundreds scrambling for cover. The gunman attacked the parade route, where people had gathered earlier in the day to secure spots with a good view. But during the shooting – some of them visibly bloodied – scattered in the confusion. The suspect escaped from the police several hours after the attack, but later they surrounded his house. Police previously said they had recovered the perpetrator’s rifle.
