The Fejér County Archives of the Hungarian National Archives recently launched a series of programs named Archival Afternoons. Péterné Völgyi told the story of Márta Reich’s grandfather, Árpád Lengyel, who saved the lives of hundreds of people as a ship’s doctor on the Carpathia.
“Everyone knows about the Titanic, much less about the Carpathia, and unfortunately very few about Árpád Lengyel,” Péterné Völgyi Márta Reich began her presentation. He says that one of his life tasks is trying to keep his grandfather’s memory alive.
The audience could see and hear a performance whose entire material is owned by the lifesaver’s grandson. During the afternoon, they were able to learn more about the history of the Titanic, whose first and last voyage also determined the life of Árpád Lengyel. The memories of the ship’s doctor were also revived in detail by his granddaughter, Péterné Márta Reich.
