What is the best milk to buy at the supermarket? Forget the famous brands, the results of this latest study will surprise you.

Milk is one of those foods that many Italian families have in the fridge or in the pantry, depending on whether it is fresh or long-life (uht). It is therefore a consumer food item with a high frequency of purchase and it is no coincidence that it is in the list of products present in the Istat basket, the one that lists the consumer price indices of goods and services.

From a recent random study on 25 brands of 100% Italian whole milk for sale in supermarkets and discount stores throughout the country, a truth has come out that has amazed many. In other words, the best milk to buy at the supermarket did not turn out to be from a famous and renowned brand in the sector, but a milk with a brand name. In practice, this milk bears the brand name of the well-known chain of shops where it is sold.

The best Italian milk: the ranking

The study was carried out by Il Salvagente which analyzed 25 brands of whole Italian milk on sale in various supermarkets from Northern to Southern Italy. First of all, we point out a rather comforting piece of news, namely that the milk examined is of good quality and the absence of antibiotics or toxins should be highlighted. Some products are better than others because they keep nutrients in significant quantities despite the pasteurization treatments.

Obviously it is necessary to buy, and drink, milk that has milk proteins, i.e. those essential amino acids that our body does not produce, and all the other nutritional elements that characterize this food. Otherwise it would be enough to drink a glass of water… In fact, all the brands examined by this test have significant differences between them as regards quality parameters.

Among the brands that received the highest marks were Alta Qualità fresh milk under the Carrefour Original brand, Esselunga and Lidl. Excellent evaluations went to two types of microfiltered milk which, despite the treatments, have high levels of nutrients: Esselunga Bio and Conad Più tempo. At the top of the rankings there is also Parmalat Zymil (for those who have Lactose intolerancesince it is without) and the Italian Pascoli organic milk for sale at Eurospin.

A curiosity: the magazine then launched a survey among its readers and social users who responded by indicating which is the best milk, according to their experience. The data show a good rating for Coop fresh high quality milk, whole Granarolo Bio and Mila whole milk Hay Alto Adige, however, these brands achieved only 25% of the preferences.
