The surprising promo for the return of ‘El Hormiguero’: “Pablo Motos has died”

September is synonymous with change, even if there are things that have long since stopped changing. The television season, as well as many other vital ones, starts in just a few days; the programs are getting ready to start the race with force and the networks only have to wait to see if the bets they have made for their schedule work. In the coveted time slot of access prime time, there is a program that has been assured of its throne in the ratings for many Septembers: El Hormiguero.

The leading programme of the night in Spain returns next Monday, September 2, to start its nineteenth season on television. It will be at 9:45 p.m., as always, and the identity of the first guest has not yet been revealed. The first promo for the format has come to light, and its theme has surprised everyone: the enigma of Pablo Motos’ death.

Mystery to whet your appetite

This is a short video that starts with Vicente Vallés, presenter of the nightly news on Antena 3, giving the news of the presenter’s death. “Pablo Motos has died. His body has been found at his house and as is tradition, hundreds of celebrities are already uploading their photos with him to social media,” he says, dressed in a suit similar to the one he wears on the news and with the background used by Antena 3 Noticias.

Immediately after, the camera zooms out and shows Juan, Damián and Marron, watching the television. They all look shocked and surprised, sitting on a small red sofa and gathered in a room with numerous musical references. “We have to find out who killed Pablo and it is clear that he lives in this building,” says the scientist on the programme.

Then the camera goes outside the building and focuses on Plex, a popular content creator, who records himself in the street. “Bro, what a crazy thing. We are right in front of the building where Pablo Motos died. Right when he was in his prime,” he says. And the preview ends, making it clear only that the new season of El Hormiguero will start by investigating the fictitious death of its presenter. A mystery to whet the appetite for the long menu of the year.

A season of maximum competition

Although all television shows have ‘rivals’ to beat in terms of audiences, this year’s competitiveness promises to take the fight for the night-time slot to a new level. The format hosted by Pablo Motos will have to compete against two new bets: TVE’s David Broncano and La Resiliencia, and Telecinco’s Babylon Show by Carlos Latre.
