The Surprising History of Call of Duty’s Shipment Map: From Internal Testing to Multiplayer Classic

The much-loved Shipment map in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare multiplayer wasn’t supposed to make it into the final game. This was told by network design director Jeff Smith in an interview with Dexerto.

According to Smith, Shipment was used for internal testing and was originally intended for split-screen duels. The developers planned to remove it in the release version, but due to an oversight, the map was not removed from the list of available for the game. It ended up being extremely successful and received multiple updates, most recently with Call of Duty: Vanguard.

According to rumors, the new part of the Call of Duty series will be a direct continuation of Modern Warfare II, released in 2022. The release of the game may take place on November 10, 2023 with a preliminary beta test in October.
