Laughter is considered one of the most important things that benefits a person’s health and keeps him away from the worries of daily life. Laughter is a type of psychological therapy that does not cost the person any cost and makes him feel comfortable. How true is the saying “Laughter prolongs life?”
In this field, American diet expert Michael Mosley revealed that laughter has many scientific benefits.
Laughter has been linked to feeling socially connected, better pain tolerance, more energy, improved memory and good heart health.
To discover the relationship between laughter and heart health in more depth, Dr. Mosley sought the help of cardiologist Michel Miller from the University of Pennsylvania in the United States of America, according to the British newspaper “Express”.
As part of his research, Miller tested the effect of stress and laughter on the arteries.
“The center of heart disease is the inner lining of the blood vessels,” Miller explained.
He continued: “The endothelium represents heart health, and it is the first thing to be damaged if you suffer from high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, or are a smoker.”
He added: “When you feel stressed, your blood vessels constrict.”
He explained: “The researchers in the study made the volunteers watch a clip from a movie that encourages stress, and this caused their blood vessels to constrict.”
Miller continued: “Later we also showed them movies containing funny clips, and when we did this part of the experiment, the blood vessels opened.”
He pointed out, “For a laugh to benefit heart health, it must be real, bringing tears to your eyes, and during this physical response, endorphins are released that make you feel happy and contribute to the dilation of your blood vessels.”
Other benefits include lower blood pressure, reduced inflammation, and lower cholesterol, and the effects can last for up to 24 hours.”
