Today, at the age of 79, he is one of the biggest names in rock history.
Ian Gillen is an English rock singer born on 19 August 1945 in London. During his long career as a singer, he was the vocalist of “Deep Purple”, “Black Sabbath”, “Ian Gillan Band”.
His career started already in the group “Epizode Six” (Epizode Six), and after several years of participation in it, he moved to “Deep Purple”, where he replaced the departed Rod Evans. Ian Gillan was the first singer in what is considered the most successful rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber in 1972.
After leaving Deep Purple, he and some close friends formed the next band he was a vocalist for, the Ian Gillan Band, with which he had many albums, hits and number one hits. He returned to Deep Purple and was one of the people who came up with the idea of the band reuniting in 1984.
He left again in 1990 and was replaced by Joe Lynn Turner, who had previously sung in Rainbow, but fans wanted Gillan behind the mic and so he returned in 1992. During his career as the lead singer of Purple, he sang some of the timeless rock songs such as: Child in time, Smoke on the water, Fireball, Black night, Anya, When a blind man cries.
For a short time he was the vocalist of Black Sabbath. There he takes the place of lead vocalist. With the same group he has released one album and several hits. There are also several duets with Tony Martin – also ex-vocalist of “Black Sabbath”, Luciano Pavarotti and a number of other artists. He visited Bulgaria 3 times with the group “Deep Purple” and 1 time with the group “Ian Gillan Band”.
