Boca Juniors, last champion of the LPF Cup, will receive Arsenal de Sarandí and River, defending champion of the LPF, will be visiting Defense and Justice, in the debut of the new Professional Football League (LPF), in the end week from June 3 to 5. While the super classic between Boca Juniors and River Plate will be played on Sunday, September 11, in one of the matches corresponding to the 18th date.
The championship will have a round robin format in a round of 27 dates, the champion will qualify for the Copa Libertadores de América and the two worst averages will go down to the First National.
The fixture was not drawn by lottery in order to take into account the programs of the international cups of all the clubs involved and the limited schedule for the start of the World Cup next November, as explained by the LPF.
“This occurred because the leaders of the LPF clubs had determined that the Professional League should invest the venues with respect to the 2021 League tournament,” the LPF announced in a statement. “And that in January of this year it was defined that in the 2022 Binance Cup -which is played with a totally different format from the League tournament-, at least the localities of the classics would be reversed with respect to the 2021 League competition, to ensure that all teams play the same number of home games as visitors”, he continued in the detail of the determination.
In addition, it was clarified that the “complication of complying with the schedule” was also due to the rise of Tigre and Barracas Central, because two new clubs were added.
The calendar will force us to have six dates in the middle of the week, such as the third (Wednesday, June 15), the ninth (Wednesday, July 20), the fourteenth (Wednesday, August 17), the nineteenth (Wednesday, September 14), the twenty-third (Wednesday, October 5) and twenty-fifth (Wednesday, October 12). The championship will begin on Friday, June 3 and will end on Sunday, October 23. The winner will face Boca on Sunday, November 6, in the Champions Trophy.
Once the season is over, the two descended by averages will be known after two editions without losing category due to the coronavirus pandemic, and also those classified for the Copa Libertadores -Boca has already secured their ticket- and the Copa Sudamericana del 2022. “The Argentine Football Association will award a sum of 500,000 dollars to the team that wins the 2022 Professional League, as well as rewarding Boca with the same sum for having won the 2022 League Cup. This money was donated by the Conmebol to all the federations of the continent”, reported the LPF.
