Small geomagnetic storms could hit Earth after the sun emits plasma, experts say.
Experts say small storms could affect some equipment on Earth as well as make the aurora borealis visible in some northern places.
Experts have warned that the mass ejection of the Sun’s corona is expected to erase Earth’s magnetic field.
But don’t worry, although there are some reports to worry about, and any effect will most likely be very limited.
The Met’s office said the CME was likely to arrive Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
It said it believed there was a 30 percent chance that it would cause a minor hurricane or Category 1 hurricane, which is likely to peak on Sunday.
Geomagnetic storms are rated on a scale starting with G1 and working up from there, with G2 being twice as strong as G1, and so on.
A Category G1 hurricane could cause minor fluctuations in the power grid, some impacts on satellites as well as a possible aurora borealis.
The Bureau of Meteorology has warned that there may be more geomagnetic activity than expected if a second “corona hole” comes into play at the same time. He added that it was unclear how likely this would be and when it might happen, but it was clear that the effect would be limited.
