Small pocket on jeans – homage to Levi’s original design
–
–
The element originally appeared in the 1873 Levi Strauss & Co “bib overalls” design for storing watches.
The small pocket on jeans was first used massively by Levi’s in the 1890 Lot 501. For what purpose it was invented and why it is still used, the edition recalled The Sun.

Initially, the pocket was intended for storing watches on a chain.
Note that many media outlets do not agree with this statement, since jeans were worn at that time by workers – miners, gold prospectors. In this light, the version about a pocket for a lighter or nails is more believable.
The brand decided to keep this detail on its products in order to preserve the original design of the iconic jeans model.
According to Levi Strauss & Co historian Tracy Panek, the small pocket was only modified during World War II: two corner rivets were removed to preserve the metal for military use.
After the end of the war, the hardware and pocket returned.
Many fashion brands have copied the Levi’s detail, but they place a small pocket in various places on the jeans.
According to many people, it is convenient to store rings, matches, coins and even keys in it, but in general it is a practically useless element.
Nowadays, the small pocket is a tribute to the original Levi’s design.
