JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – The sun will return right above the Kaaba, Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday (27/5/2021) at around 12:18 local time.
This celestial phenomenon which is also called the ‘zero shadow’ will occur twice a year at the Grand Mosque. This is because the location of the Grand Mosque is between the equator and the equator (tropic of cancer).
Quoted from the page Not Online, Head of the Jeddah Astronomical Association, Majed Abu Zahra, explained, the solar disk will be directly above the Kaaba and the sun will lose its shadow for a short time.
The National Aviation and Space Agency (LAPAN) conveyed that the phenomenon of the Sun above the Kaaba is also called Istiwa’ul A’zham or Great Culmination.

LAPAN explains that this phenomenon occurs when the Sun’s declination is equal to the geographical latitude of the Kaaba. So, the Sun was directly above the Kaaba at midday.
“So that every shadow formed at that time will lead to the Kaaba,” wrote Lapan in the official page, quoted Tuesday (27/5/2021).
