But who is Camille Dhont?
In the Netherlands we don’t really know Camille (pronounced ‘Kammie’), but in Belgium she is a superstar. She owes her fame to the same youth series that also made Pommelien Thijs – known to us from the mega hit Nu we no longer talk – through. In #LikeMe she was one of the protagonists, in which Dutch classics were given a new look. The now discontinued series was reminiscent of the American Glee.
She got her breakthrough as a solo singer thanks to producer Regi Penxten. The DJ who achieved great success in the zeroes with Milk Inc. and scored a hit last year with Emma Heesters. He asked her to be a singer with his dance beats and their first two hits hit Belgium like a bomb. Her first solo single Vuurwerk became an even bigger success and went double platinum. It earned her a participation in Love for music (the Flemish best singers) and The masked singer. She won the latter program as ‘Misspoes’.

The great success is in stark contrast to the start of her career. As a 14-year-old she participated in The Voice kids, but painfully enough not a single chair turned. ,,I really wanted to sink through the ground’”, Camille later said. “That was really humiliating.”
Belgium is now at her feet, but Germany is also trying to conquer them. Her successful single Vuurwerk was transformed into Feuerwerk and she signed a contract with Sony Music Germany. There she will also release an album and three songs. And she is already popular across the Belgian borders, because Mathieu van der Poel is a fan. Or does the Dutch driver betray his very Belgian roots?
