In early 2021, the giant cargo ship Ever Given ran aground for several days in the Suez Canal. A cargo ship carrying 65,000 tons of grain, the ‘MV Glory’ from Ukraine, prepares to set sail for China. The Canal Authority sent a tug to try and refloat the freighter, but why did it run aground?
Canal utility company Leth Agencies said three canal tugs were trying to refloat the Glory after it ran aground on Monday near the town of El Qantara in Ismailia province on the Suez Canal.
The Suez Canal is an important waterway between Europe and Asia, and the grounding of the Glory has also made the Suez Canal “blocked” again. Currently, at least about 20 vessels that originally intended to head south are affected. Leth Agency said the Canal traffic has not been affected, but only partial delays are expected.
